Performed in both Anglican and Roman-Catholic churches, as well as in the concert hall,
much of Robert Hugill's religious music has been written for liturgical use.
Many pieces, such as the four-part mass Missa Sanctissima Maria, the two-part mass Missa Veni Sancte Spiritus, and
the motets De Profundis and Jesu Rex Gloriae were written for particular church choirs and are eminently suitable for other small choirs.
Some of the larger motets and masses were written for concert performance, but would lend themselves to grander liturgical performance.
The motets and masses have been divided according to language (English or Latin), but the composer is happy to arrange for English versions of Latin pieces (and vice versa). For further information please click on the links on the left.
Autumn 2004 saw the publication of the first volume of Tempus per Annum, Robert's project to write motets for each of the Sundays and major Feasts of the church's year.
The first volume, covering Advent and Christmastide, has been released and motets from Volum 2, covering Lent, Holy Week and Eastertide are now available.
