Chorus of approval are really on song
Crouch End Festival Chorus
**
All Hallows Church, NW3
The honourable tradition of choral singing is very much alive in North London.
The Crouch End Festival Chorus - who have a CD at number six in the US classical charts, a busy schedul with the prop group Divine Comedy, and more importantly,
a reputation as the large choir of choice for contemporary music - showe off their versatility in two sell-out concerts at the weekend.
The programme included a choral rarity by Britten, a world premiere by Robert Hugill, a modern classic by Tavener and a Baroque classic by Handel
....
Hugill's inventive Here be Angels calls on the chorus to sing wtih anguish in different keys simultaneously.
Hugill found one of his texts on the Internet. He is a computer programmer by day, coincidentally for this very newspaper. His oratorio is more cerebral than lyrical.
