2. The Plum
(... a choice or desired object .. Webster's Dictionary)
Royal and Fat
a summer's delight
it tautens and thrives
grown momentous.
So ripely tight
is its lustrous cap
a flick of the tongue
strikes a hairline crack
leaking a liquor
that cannot be sopped
that has to be sucked
to exhaustion
4. The Melon
A tentative probe
of the dullest spoon's edge
and the quartermoon flesh
starts to tremble and spread
like wet thighs during sex
The metal slides under
slipping on honey
from broken fruit jets,
then scoops out a cool Persian Gulf.
Plunge fingers and face into Asia!
6. The Melon
Soft
as the hissing
of snakes mating
the first petal
slips
its velvel gloved fit
off the silken
bellbud
and opens
Opens
and causes
curtains of petals
to unfold
as lips spread
upon kissing
first in pucker
then all giving
Slow
as the curl
of a newborn's hair
seconds after washing
the spiral
of unending petals
separate
unkissing the central cone:
the empty
the unknown
