Tell me Shepherd

Tell me shepherd, what did you do in the dark of the night?
Sat by our flocks as guardians, guardians right.
Sat and heard wolves prowling through the night.
Sat and watched snow patterning moonlight.

Tell me shepherd, what did you see in the dark of the night?
I saw the wolf slinking a cross the land.
I saw the sheep stealers with sheep in their hand.
I saw the angels say King Jesus was at hand.

Tell me shepherd where did you go when you heard such news?
We went to Bethlehem to see, to see the King.
His praises to sing.
His gifts to bring.

Tell me shepherd. Tell me shepherd what did you give in that stable bare?
Wooden rattle for the baby King.
Baby lambs his flock to bring.
Shepherds crook for his pastoring.
